Astro Bot is a magnificent platformer. People call it the best of its genre since Super Mario Odyssey, and I only disagree because I’d argue it’s even better. It’s the platonic ideal of platforming—inventive, fluid, and constantly refreshing.
Its simplicity made awarding it a 5/5 in our full review an easy choice. While it might not be the most narratively “important” game of the year, it’s definitely one of the most joyful and energizing experiences you can have with a controller.
